Yulia A. Kraus
PhD
Leading researcher at the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Faculty of Biology, Lomonosov Moscow State University
Group leader of the laboratory for Morphogenesis Evolution at the Koltzov Institute of Developmental Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Research Interests
Embryology of invertebrates, Life cycles, Larval development, Evolutionary embryology, Comparative embryology, Morphogenesis, Morphomechanics, Embryonic induction.
The main area of research interest is evolution of embryonic development, larval development and complex life cycles of cnidarians.
Scientific activities
For more than 20 years, Yulia Kraus has been studying morphogenetic processes in the development of cnidarians, both model species (Nematostella, Hydractinia, Clytia), and non-model species from natural populations. She uses the methods of histology, electron microscopy, confocal microscopy, microsurgical operations, molecular biology. One of her achievements is the identification of the cnidarian organizer region associated with the blastopore.
Since the beginning of her scientific career, she has published about 40 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including publications in Developmental Biology, Evolution and Development, Development, Nature Communications, PNAS. She participates in the organization of symposia for the international meetings of the European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology, International Society for Invertebrate Morphology.
